No one is talking about how they are now going after NOAA https://www.noaa.gov/ --where all our weather forecasts originate. Here in Denver we are getting the local news on this, fed cuts, buy outs offered, and how this will impact climate change understanding and preparation for everyone in the USA.
I appreciate Dr. Jemar Tisby's emphasis on the U.S.' Confessing Church, the Black Church & Black Christian Witness. And I was surprised with Dr. Diana Butler Bass' uncovering of assumptions about "Christians." "We're not alone," to quote Dr. Kristin Du Mez; I just read a post about a writer's reflections with some similarities: https://robinjesterwootton.substack.com/p/crusades-are-coming
Good conversation, but I didn’t think anyone really addressed the good listener question about wanting a goal to aim at.
In 2028, and even 2026, there can be electoral goals. But in the meantime, what are we aiming for? Just supporting opposition so that maybe the regime will only accomplish 75% of what it is attempting instead of 100% is not very inspiring, but maybe it is all that is realistic. Maybe in parallel we try to nudge as many of our fellow Christians as possible away from fascism, but if recent years are any indication that brings Sysyphus to mind.
I find it interesting that my iPhone, which always offers up the words it thinks I am typing, refuses to suggest “fascism” even when I give it the first 6 letters. Is Apple obeying in advance?
Personally, I intend to follow the life & teachings of Jesus of Nazareth & counter the sociopolitical ideology of "white X-ian Nationalism" & "Xian Dominionism." I note Frederick's Douglass applicable quote, which Dr. Jemar references: https://jemartisby.substack.com/p/remember-the-deeds-of-the-lord
I reflect on Dr. Tisby's poignant comment about people who let themselves or loved ones die from Covid-19 for the sake of socio-political perspectives rather than change their views with the reality. It's scary for me that what I've faced from my family, esp in the last 5 years, has now taken over the Republican party, whose Regime is now destroying the nation with disregard for the constitution & the people themselves. I regret & lament I didn't counter the white-centering & white Xian Nationalism (wCN) sooner. I first learned from Dr. Tisby & I'm grateful for all the TCU--esp in the 1st 100 days of the "Pres Musk-Trump-wanna-be-king Regime."
Does it make a difference that Trump is setting up the anti-Christian bias for federal employees and groups and not something for all groups in America?
As white Christian nationalism (wCN) has taken over the Republican party, now MAGA, with Project 2025 & Esther Project added, I expect "obedience in advance" to spread. Already at the NSA museum, nonwhite women were covered up from display--amidst their heritage month--Black History Month. From my experience exiting wCN, I expect opposition to spread to "outsiders" like Dr. Kristin Du Mez discusses. https://www.npr.org/2025/02/05/nx-s1-5286299/nsa-museum-dei-exhibit-women-people-of-color-trump
Correction: "NSA museum covered plaques honoring women and people of color, provoking an uproar"
Dr. Jemar Tisby spoke to the socio-political ideology/movement with white privilege. IMHO, I think the "anti-Chrisitian bias" efforts will also include opposing DEI. I wonder if "anti-Christian bias" will be expanded to include whatever ideologies & practices the Regime opposes.
When I saw Sec. Hegseth signing a renaming of Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg and Google Maps renaming the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America for US Maps users, had a thought about the importance of naming things, places and people. It is concerning to me that by mere fiat the over 300 years of history are wiped away and re-written, from a purely imperialistic position. This type of ignorant new/old form of nativism is very concerning for many reasons. I think some folks, like the Project 2025 folks are fully aware of what they are doing, but I think there are many who have no clue of the history of that body of water's name and its connection to the indigenous peoples from the region. Brings new meaning the re-birth" of the Doctrine of Discovery.
I am thrilled and heartened to discover your convocation plan and the PRRI Survey. Not all those who voted for Trump are the same. We need to stop tallking about "them" or asking how "they" could have voted for him Your PRRI survey is doing a great service in reminding us of this. I would love to see PRRI do more of the same by helping identify those who are more likely to change their minds and coordinate with other movements like moveon, indivisible to reach out to those so identified. Not sure this is relevant nor and end-game plan, but I could't help think of Constantine and the Council of Nicea where the goal was peace by having only one group be the authority. Certainly hope and assuming we don't have another Constantine.

Thank you for yesterday and all the work you do. And thanks for that little bit of good news there at the end.

It's a great question. I noted Dr. Diana mentioned focus on a justice lane, which I think helps with goals by that lane & related organization.

The opening line sets a positive and enthusiastic tone, reinforcing a sense of community among participants
