I’d love to hear your collective takes on Russell Vought. As the Director of OMB AND graduate of Wheaton College, I think for those of us with connections to Christian Colleges (I’m an alum of both Gordon College and Eastern University part of the (former) coalition of Christian colleges as is/was Wheaton), might appreciate a walk through time to how he created this ultra non-WWJD hypocritical domination in our government.

Thank you for this episode. I learn so much from the 4 of you; it’s still fun when there’s only 3 though! Regarding how formerly decent congressmen are now leading some of the atrocities the regime is committing, such as dumping people in strange countries to likely die in prison, I can’t help but believe it’s money that caused them to turn. This most corrupt president in history is surrounded by billionaires for a reason - he needs their money to implement Project 2025

Excellent conversation, and prayers ascending for you on your retreat. Re: Pope Leo XXIV, have explored the history of Leo XIII, who wrote the encyclical Rerum Novarum in 1891? It was the founding document of Catholic social teaching. (Kristen: Leo xIII was a contemporary of Abraham Kuyper, and concerned with many of the same issues, so you're probably acquainted with his work).

I really enjoyed the episode. Something I'd like to suggest you consider. When reviewing what the former Pope and new Pope have said and/or written, many say they are not "political." I have a slight disagreement with this characterization. I don't think they are being partisan, but I would argue they are being political. I think too often when we say we are being "political," we mean that we are not being partisan. This is why I think it is OK if a religious leader, like a Pope, makes statements that engage with elected leaders and challenge the means and methods of power. This is political.

I attended the Lutheran Seminary, Gettysburg, PA, and in our Lutheran Confessions class the Church Historian Professor, Eric Gritsch said Martin Lutheran joined the Augustinian Order as they were the "marines" of the Church at that time, the most challenging and difficult order! Now we the Church has a "marine" pope! I love it!

Another excellent Convocation: thought-provoking, heart-moving, and a little scary! In regards to the choice of Pope, i echo what many have pointed out: that this was a vote for a CONTINUATION of a progressive momentum, rather than the usual pendulum swing back towards regression, in much the same way as the results of the recent elections in Canada and Australia. As a Canadian, i am used to the Prime Ministership moving back and forth between the Liberals and the Conservatives quite consistently, and after this very long term under a Liberal government, pretty much everyone expected the mantle to switch to the Conservatives, no matter how unlikeable their leader is. Yet that didn't happen. I think a similar pattern happened in Australia. What this says to me is that people are taking their voting power much more seriously. It also says that, as ingrained as the usual voting habits are, people just could not see the regressive option as the usual, viable and necessary reset that it may have served in the past. It gives me hope that humanity by and large is becoming unwilling to give repressive and regressive groups even a minute more time or an ounce more power. Lets hope that continues!

On a different note: i have been noticing that when i watch the CU on YouTube, the ads always interrupt when Jemar is speaking! I have noticed it consistently for several episodes now. Can the algorithm by racial profiling?!? It's so weird! Not to mention frustrating, as i love to stay in the zone when Jemar is on a roll!

Great chat today! For the record, I like Clement. I'm certain that won't get any points with your wife but I do like it. Prayers ascending for your retreat. I'm sure you all could use the down time together spent up close and personal. Thanks for today Robbie and I'm fascinated with that family Bible!

This isn’t a critique as much as perhaps revealing my own ignorance on the subject, but I was surprised that there wasn’t much nuance regarding the discussion of the new pope. I understand the positive feelings especially considering alternatives but I’m left somewhat confused since we are talking about a historically abusive religious structure. I mean no offense to Catholics in the same way I would have similar questions around discussion of the SBC. Perhaps there are things that some of us need a bit more background on that others perhaps take for granted as common knowledge? Anyway, thanks for all you do! Appreciate your work.
