Join us for this special episode, where Jemar Tisby, Kristin Du Mez, Robert P. Jones, and Diana Butler Bass talk about the implications of Trump's unprecedented criminal conviction.
Robby's comment on 10 and 12 was really powerful and I wish the media could repeat that... 12 ordinary citizens did something that 10 republicans could not find the moral courage to do! Wow. This is such a simple yet profound observation.
I feel very grateful for the jury's dedicated deliberations for a difficult case with risks of being targeted by the 45th U.S. president-- a current presidential candidate spreading the "persecution complex" & preparing Project 2025.
Love the Convocation! The Convocation Unscripted is super helpful for processing & thought provoking--with some humor too.
I’m watching right now, and it’s so good! Exactly the analysis I haven’t been able to find anywhere else; so disappointed in national media general coverage of this story. You guys fill an important need here!
I agree with Diana, there are many people who make their decisions silently.
Donald Trump has broken so many norms and deceives so many people. One norm was not showing his income taxes. Undocumented immigrants pay their taxes!!! I have worked side by side for many years. During the trial I saw Hope Hicks and Madeleine Westerhout as victims. Mueller interviewed Hope Hicks many times. Hope kept an impeccable diary. It takes years for victims to come forward. Donald Trump drags everyone into his corruption including the Senators, Representatives and Governors. The Bible says pray for our leaders. I have prayed that Donald Trump's corruption for 9 years. It is coming out through porn stars, Justice system, 12 ordinary citizens, historians, media ect. Ted Cruz is my Senator and I reminded him again after this verdict that he guilty of sedition.
A house divided cannot stand. Another norm Donald Trump has broken. Americans didn't always like our President but we respected the office and each other. I believe we have to give people the opportunity to quietly vote, and change their mind about Donald Trump. Restoration needs to happen.
I am coming out of the closet. I like President Biden. He is so wise.He has no fear of adversaries. He truly is a real strong man. He is a man of faith. He believes in the rule of law, the constitution and he understands the art of debating and then negotiating compromise to get things done. The billionaires from Silicone Valley, Wall Street and Elon Musk are lining up for Trump because their tax breaks are running out. I stand with the undocumented worker who pays taxes. Ceazar Chavez won against the rich farmers before the age of social media using boycotts. My family was a part of that boycott. I will boycott any business that supports Donald Trump including Home Depot. Sorry for being so chatty.
Gloria, thank you. We need to liberate Ted from his current job so that he can vacation in Cancun full time. Vote Colin Allred, a common sense Democrat, for Senate!
Thanks for sharing both statistically and emotionally. Interesting to me that the one white male offered statistics (I was blown away from by values voters shift of Protestants from 30% in 2011 to 72% in 2016). I wonder if we may see a shift back in this election.
Then I was struck by the emotional reactions of the other three contributors. I wonder if this news will effect more profoundly people of color and females.
As a white male pastor for 35 years in the Reformed Church in America, I am hoping to communicate with Trump values voters and mainliners in the hopes of seeing shifts in both groups...
I don't share the hope that maybe some older Trump voters will reconsider. All the Trump voters I know defend him to the death. They don't believe he is guilty. They believe the system is rigged against him. I talked with a Trump friend about the terrible rants Trump made I think at Easter -- I don't remember what exactly, but she wrote angrily "Don't you think the media can put fake news? Don't you think they can take out of context? They persecute him. I get my news only from Trump's Truth Social account." So I signed up for Truth Social and there was his post. When I told her it was on Trump's Truth Social -- she still defended him. "Probably he is just so frustrated over all the lies and persecution, etc. I believe Trump's own words that he could walk down 5th avenue and shoot people and wouldn't lose a single supporter. It is sad, but they always find a way to excuse and justify him.
Trump has lied to his supporters for years and rarely if ever do they question his truthfulness. They just stay in their own bubble and seek only the news that agrees with what they already believe.
Many Christians do the same. They cling to what they were taught and never question or seek more information. It may be caused by fear, but I find it sad.
I appreciate hearing discussions of different opinions and respectful dialogue.
Listening to Diana's comment about the ordinary, not the politicians are "the buck stops here" moment. I immediately remembered Cassidy Hutchinson and the other young women working in Trumps white house staff that are THE voice for integrity. I am weeping with the realization that this amazing experiment actually does work.
Yes, we are IN a very difficult season, but Cassidy, an actress, 12 ordinary people like you and me make the idea of CHARACTER matter. Make an idea like We The People matter.

Thank you for doing this! Will this podcast be available on Apple podcasts?
Appreciate all of you so much.
Not yet, but we're working on it! Building this ship as we're sailing it :)

Thank you all!
We are a constitutional republic with representative, rather than direct, democratic representation, for the very reasons Jemar and Diana articulate.
The great danger is the rush to denigrate and undercut the legitimacy of our legal process.

I totally agree 👍 I remind him he represents us and not Donald Trump.

Thank you for renacting the 34 guilty. Powerful.

THANKS BE TO GOD.
I think the jurors would enjoy listening to this episode & the mentions of their efforts with thorough deliberation for their unanimous decision.
Some things never change.
